Meet Brad Martin
A native of Sun Valley, Idaho, Martin grew up practicing martial arts and alpine ski racing at an international level. Brad earned a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and is well versed in numerous other styles while mastering other sporting and athletic endeavors.
After graduation with a Philosophy degree from the University of Washington, Brad made the move to Los Angeles to pursue his lifetime passion of becoming a Hollywood stuntman.
Through hard work and dedication, Brad quickly became one of the top stunt professionals in the business. He has stunt doubled for some of Hollywood’s most elite actors, including exclusive stunt double for George Clooney in Batman & Robin, The Perfect Storm, Three Kings, Out of Sight, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Peacemaker. Along with Batman and Robin, Brad has also doubled for several other superheroes: Chris O’Donnell in Batman Forever, Ben Affleck in Daredevil and Toby Maguire in Spider-Man 2.
In the early 2000’s Brad began focusing on stunt coordinating, action directing and action design. He is best recognized for his work designing, coordinating and directing the action units in the Underworld franchise. He has also coordinated stunts for countless other blockbusters including: Live Free or Die Hard, Tropic Thunder, The Other Guys and Expendables 3.
Currently, Brad’s biggest project to date has him in a multi-role position: Second Unit Director, Supervising Stunt Coordinator, and Action Designer for Dungeons & Dragons (2023).
In 2008, Brad won the Red Bull Taurus ™ World Sunt Award for Best Stunt Coordinator for his work in Live Free or Die Hard. The Taurus ™ is the equivalent of an Oscar® for stunt performers.
As a passionate martial artist and a competitor at heart, Brad continues to think outside the box and bring original action to any project or story-not all action is the same.
When Brad is not working on a project you can find him in the Bavarian Alps or the jungles of Panama.
Action Director Develops a New Model for Action Films
In 1997, Brad and a few of his peers-a new breed of action-stunt performers, co-founded Smashcut Action. Smashcut Action pioneered how stunts/action pre-visualization would enhance movie production. Twenty years later many of the creators are still having a positive impact in the action film industry.
Today, under Brad’s direction, Smashcut Action has pivoted its model to be first of its kind-an action consulting agency. This innovative business model brings customizable action-to-story integration to media projects and film productions. Their action engineers are hands-on from project inception to completion.
